Progesterone (for Intramuscular Injection)

What is Progesterone?
Progesterone, one of the reproductive hormones, is needed to increase the receptivity of your endometrium for implantation of an embryo and is used as part of an assisted reproductive technology (ART).
How Do I Use Progesterone?
Here are step-by-step instructions for administering an intramuscular progesterone injection:

| Wash your hands thoroughly and make sure the surface you work on is clean. |

Use an alcohol swab to cleanse the rubber stoppers of the progesterone medication.
|
|
|
Using the 3cc syringe with a 1½ inch needle, pull back on the plunger to the 1cc mark.
|
|
|
Pierce the rubber stopper of the progesterone vial. Inject 1cc of air into the vial.
|
|
|
Turn the vial upside down, making sure the tip of the needle is below the fluid level. Withdraw the dosage ordered. Progesterone is an oil. It will pull into the syringe more slowly than sterile water does as when you use your other fertility medications.

Pull out the needle and replace the cap. Pull back on the plunger to clear the needle of any medication. Remove the needle from the syringe and replace with a new 1½ inch needle.

|
With the needle pointing toward the ceiling, flick the side of the syringe to disperse the air bubbles and the air pocket at the top of the syringe, then gently push the plunger to eliminate any air until you expel one or two drops of liquid from the tip of the needle.

¿Qué es la progesterona?
La progesterona, una de las hormonas reproductivas, es necesaria para aumentar la receptividad del endometrio para la implantación de un embrión, y se usa como parte de una tecnología reproductiva asistida (ART, por sus siglas en inglés).
¿Cómo utilizo la progesterona?
Aquí incluimos instrucciones paso a paso para administrar la inyección intramuscular de progesterona:

| Lávese bien las manos y asegúrese de que la superficie sobre la que trabaja esté limpia. |

|
Utilice un hisopo con alcohol para limpiar los tapones de goma del medicamento con progesterona.
|
|
|
Con una jeringa de 3 cc con una aguja de 1½ pulgadas, tire del émbolo hasta la marca de 1 cc.
|
|
|
Perfore el tapón de goma del vial de progesterona. Inyecte 1 cc de aire en el vial.
|
|
|
Coloque el vial al revés asegurándose de que la punta de la aguja esté por debajo del nivel del líquido. Retire la dosis indicada. La progesterona es un aceite. Ingresará en la jeringa más lentamente que el agua estéril cuando usa sus otros medicamentos para la fertilidad.

|
Retire la aguja y vuelva a colocar el capuchón. Tire del émbolo para extraer todo el medicamento de la aguja. Retire la aguja de la jeringa y reemplácela con una aguja nueva de 1½ pulgadas.
|

|
Con la aguja apuntando hacia el techo, golpee suavemente el costado de la jeringa para disipar las burbujas de aire y la bolsa de aire de la parte superior de la jeringa. Luego, suavemente, presione el émbolo para eliminar cualquier resto de aire hasta que se expulsen una o dos gotas de líquido de la punta de la aguja.

Presione el émbolo suavemente hasta que se elimine la bolsa de aire y salga una gota de líquido.
